An Intervention Portfolio Optimization app for engagement with HA and the scientific community

A modeling department of a pharmaceutical company asked us to develop an app that demonstrates their latest achievements in MCDA modelling. The customer wanted to go beyond the regular cost effectiveness analysis of one intervention, but rather give the payer possibility to optimise the health outcomes given particular budgetary constraints.

Due to privacy reasons, we have anonymised all the labels and graphics in this application. Some medication names are pure fiction and may not make any sense to you.

Step 1: Select the diseases of interest
The payer starts with selecting the diseases of interest and the iPad app automatically suggests the optimal vaccines set that covers those diseases. Vaccine efficacy and similar parameters can be varied individually.
Step 1: Select the diseases of interest
Step 1: Select the diseases of interest
Step 2: Set RU & Cost for diseases
At the next step, the payer sets key patient pathway parameters for each of the diseases disease. He or she can either change the values or keep the default values from the literature.
Step 2: Set RU & Cost for diseases
Step 3: Define your budget
Payers can set their time horizon and budgetary constraints for individual years.
Step 3: Define your budget

Step 4: Select optimisation criteria
Payers set the optimisation criteria and choose between traditional single criteria optimisation and multi criteria optimisation.
Step 4: Select optimisation criteria
Step 5: Explore optimised intervention portfolio
Finally, payers can see the optimal intervention portfolio and the burden of disease avoided based on the criteria set.
Step 4: Select optimisation criteria

The app is used as a “newsbreak” by everyone involved in the project. It has started a plethora of conversations with HA and communities even outside this therapeutic area.
